Are You Prepared For The Blessing?

There is a truth about God's blessings that we can easily overlook. First we must come to the agreement that God is not only concerned with what He wants to pour into our lives. He is also concerned with what He is preparing within us to receive it.

We often pray for God to open doors. We ask Him for restoration, for increase, for healing, for wisdom, opportunity, love, and purpose. We ask Him to change our circumstances. However, while we are asking God to prepare the blessing, He is more concerned about preparing us for the blessing.

A blessing requires more than an open door. It requires a prepared heart.

Jesus said in Luke 12:48

“For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required.”

God's blessings are not merely gifts to enjoy. They carry purpose, responsibility, and stewardship. Imagine if you will, a farmer who prays for a harvest but never prepares the ground. He may believe he is the best farmer this side of the Mississippi, but if the soil has not been cultivated, the blessing of the seed cannot reach its full potential.

Sometimes we pray for greater influence while God is teaching us humility. We pray for more responsibility while He is teaching us faithfulness. We pray for financial increase while He is teaching us generosity. We pray for healthy relationships while He is teaching us forgiveness. We pray for a larger platform while God is working on our character in the secret place. Also, let’s take a look at our spiritual junk drawer. For instance, we want God to hand us a bigger assignment while we're still arguing with Him about the last one.

We ask for the blessing and so God begins building the vessel, us. And sometimes the preparation feels like a delay. However, preparation does not mean rejection.

God may be strengthening the very place in you that will eventually carry what you have been praying about. Think about Joseph in the book of Genesis. Before he governed Egypt, he endured betrayal, slavery, injustice, and even prison. God had given him a dream long before Joseph was given the position. The promise came first, then the preparation came afterward. By the time Joseph stepped into the place God had prepared for him, he had also become the kind of man who could carry the responsibility that came with it.

This is why we should not despise the seasons when God is working on us. The hidden season may be preparing us for a visible blessing. The quiet season may be deepening our roots. The difficult season may be developing our endurance. The waiting season may be teaching us to trust God rather than the gift we are asking Him to give.

Scripture tells us in Philippians 4:19.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Beloved, God is our Provider. We don't have to manipulate blessings into existence. Nor do we have to live in fear that we will somehow miss everything God has for us. Instead, we can surrender ourselves to Him and allow Him to prepare us.

Ask yourself this:

Is my heart ready for what I am asking God to place in my hands?

If you are praying for greater influence, are you willing to serve?

If you are praying for abundance, are you willing to steward it faithfully?

If you are praying for love, are you willing to give love?

If you are praying for restoration, are you willing to release bitterness?

If you are praying for a new assignment, are you willing to obey when God calls?

If you are praying for a miracle, are you willing to trust God even while you wait?

The vessel matters. A larger blessing requires a heart capable of carrying it without being destroyed by it. God doesn't simply want to fill your hands. He wants to transform your heart.

Perhaps the season you are in right now isn't evidence that God has forgotten you. Perhaps He is simply enlarging your capacity. Maybe He is removing what cannot go with you into the next season. And most importantly, maybe He is teaching you how to carry what you have been asking Him to give you.

So don't only pray, “Lord, bless me.” Pray: “Lord, prepare me and then allow Him to do just that. To prepare your heart, your character, your faith, your hands to steward what He is going to place in them, and prepare your spirit for the blessing when it comes. We do that by asking Him to prepare us to use it for His glory.

The biggest call on your life is to make room for God to bless you. The greater blessing is becoming the kind of person God can trust with whatever He places in your hands.

Friend, God knows what He has prepared for you. Remember, while you are waiting for Him to open the door, that He may be preparing you to walk through it.

So take moments to pause, pray, believe, grow, obey, and surrender your life as a willing vessel ready to be filled up with all the blessings God has for you.

Remember dear one, the blessing belongs to God. The preparation belongs to this season. Fear not, for when the time comes, you will discover that God wasn't withholding the blessing. He was preparing the vessel. – Selah.
