In The Presence of My Enemies

There is something deeply comforting about knowing that God does not wait for the battle to end before He blesses His children. In Book of Psalms 23:5, David writes: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”

Notice the verse does not say after the enemies disappear. It says in their presence. God’s goodness is not delayed by opposition. His provision is not canceled by hardship. His peace is not dependent upon perfect circumstances. Those who tried to destroy you, or your ministry, will one day witness you sitting at God’s table being honored, being filled, being healed.

So often we think victory looks like the absence of conflict. In fact beloved, true victory is sitting calmly at the table God prepared while chaos still surrounds you. It is heaven’s declaration that fear does not own you, anxiety does not control you, and that God holds you.

And this is where Selah moments become so sacred.

A Selah moment is a holy pause in the middle of the storm; a quiet resting place where the soul remembers who God is. In seasons of spiritual warfare, heartbreak, uncertainty, or exhaustion, God ministers to us through these sacred moments. I am for sure, that once we are seated at the table of the Lord, we will not be in a hurry to leave. God slows our racing thoughts, silences the noise of fear, and gently reminds us that He is still our Shepherd, still, our Provider, and still King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

In this Psalm, David beautifully praises God for His overflowing goodness and faithful care. God not only provided him with daily needs like food and drink, but did so abundantly and lovingly. His “cup runs over,” symbolizing blessings beyond necessity. The anointing oil reflects honor, joy, and tender friendship from God. Like a shepherd caring for a cherished lamb, God watches over His children with compassion, supplying both physical and spiritual needs for this life and eternity. Even when earthly blessings seem limited, God richly fills His people with spiritual grace and favor.

Have you ever been in that place where you are barely holding on to God and His promises? Let me tell you… that place is holy ground. It is there where the fire of God refines, restores, and renews your faith if you allow Him to do so. This is where genuine faith, when tested, becomes more precious than gold, just as (1 Peter 1:7) reminds us.

The enemy is relentless, but God’s promises and faithfulness overcome Satan’s evil chatter. That’s right! The enemy may whisper lies, but God speaks promises louder. In the book of Isaiah 54:17 God reminds us that “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” Why? Because you are covered, cared for and compassionately anointed.

Do not forget beloved, Romans 8:31 boldly asks: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” What a powerful truth for our weary hearts today.

Friend, you do not have to panic in the middle of the process. God is still preparing goodness for you even now. He is still pouring oil over your head. He is still filling your cup until it overflows. The presence of enemies is not proof that God abandoned you. Oh, quite the contrary! In fact, when the enemy shows up in full force, it often means you are closer to a breakthrough than you can even imagine.. The battle itself can become the very stage where God reveals His power and faithfulness to you time and time again.

So sit at the table. Breathe deeply in His presence. Receive His peace in the middle of the battle. Trust the Good Shepherd who never loses sight of His sheep. After all, He leaves the ninety-nine to pursue the one whom He loves. When He finds you, He gently rescues you from the very things that were sent to destroy your life, to destroy your character, and even your very confidence. For God is with you beloved, and He will be even until the end of the earth. Selah.
