Our Availability to God: The Place Where Miracles Happen!

There is something extraordinary about an ordinary person who simply says, "Lord, here I am."

In a world that celebrates talent, influence, and achievement, Scripture reveals a different truth: God is looking for people who are available to Him. Time and again, the Bible reminds us that miracles often begin, not with extraordinary ability, but with ordinary believers who are willing to obey.

God rarely asks for perfection before He asks for participation. He isn't standing in heaven flipping through résumés looking for the most capable candidate. He is looking for willing hearts. Heaven has never been impressed with your shiny shoes if the your feet refuse to walk where God sends you.

Too many believers spend years waiting until they feel "qualified." They want more knowledge, more confidence, more money, more time, or perhaps fewer gray hairs before stepping into God's calling.

Meanwhile, God is saying, "I wasn't asking for the new and improved you. I was asking for your availability."

Imagine if Noah had replied, "Lord, I don't build boats. I build birdhouses."

Remember when Moses basically said, "I'm more of a desert dweller now, find someone else."

Imagine if the little boy had concluded that five loaves and two fish could never satisfy a multitude. Thankfully, he placed what little he had into the hands of Jesus, proving once again that what is surrendered to God is never measured by its size, but by the One who receives it.

Did you know that God uses your availablility? Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly chose people who were available to Him rather than impressive by the world's standards.

Isaiah responded to God's call with one of the most powerful statements ever recorded:

"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me." (Isaiah 6:8)

Isaiah wasn't volunteering because he believed he was extraordinary. We know this because just a few verses earlier, he had become painfully aware of his own sinfulness. Yet once God cleansed him, he became willing. DON’T YOU JUST LOVE THAT?!!

Availability often begins where excuses end. Did you know that God can use your weaknesses, your lack of knowledge, or inexperience? However, He refuses to work through someone who never shows up.

Miracles begin with a ‘Yes.” One of my favorite equations repeated throughout Scripture is this:

God Calls + Someone Responds = The Impossible Happening

Peter could have stayed safely inside the boat discussing wave patterns with the other disciples. Instead, he climbed over the edge because Jesus called out to him, “Come.”

What we witness next unfold in God’s word is nothing short of a miracle. Peter stepped out...and for a few breathtaking moments, a fisherman walked on water (Matthew 14:28–29).

Now, this miracle didn't happen while Peter was sitting in the boat calculating the odds of survival. It happened because he made himself available to God. Sometimes we pray for miracles while refusing to move our feet. We ask God to open doors while we're still sitting on the couch wondering why nobody has knocked. True faith cannot afford to be passive. The faith filled believer responds to the call of God.

When we take what we have in our hands, God multiplies it for His Kingdom work. Jesus didn't create lunch out of thin air when He fed the five thousand. Instead, He asked the disciples, "What do you have?" Not, "What do you wish you had?"

Reducing God to a cosmic Santa Clause or a genie in the bottle is the worst way in which to answer the call of God.

Jesus also did not say, "Come back when you've accumulated more." He simply asked them to bring what was already in their hands. A little boy surrendered five loaves and two fish. By human standards, it was insignificant. However, in the Master's hands, it became more than enough.

We read in Matthew 14, about the miracle as the word proclaims, "And they did all eat, and were filled..." (Matthew 14:20)

Notice that the miracle began when someone realized what they already possessed. God often asks us to surrender what seems too small because He delights in proving that His power is never limited by our resources. Our responsibility is availability. His responsibility is multiplication and provision.

I say all of this to say, “The greatest ability is still our availability.”

We sometimes admire great ministries, gifted teachers, powerful evangelists, and courageous missionaries while quietly assuming God only uses "special people." Yet Scripture paints a completely different picture. Paul reminds us,

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise...that no flesh should glory in his presence." (1 Corinthians 1:27–29)

Why? Because when God works through ordinary people, everyone knows Who deserves the glory. Heaven specializes in turning ordinary obedience into extraordinary testimonies. God has never been intimidated by small beginnings. A shepherd's staff became an instrument of deliverance. A shepherd's sling defeated a giant. A borrowed boat became a floating pulpit. A wooden cross became the doorway to salvation. The common thread wasn't the object. It was the willingness to place it in God's hands.

I encourage you today friend, don’t miss your divine appointment. Every day presents opportunities that appear remarkably ordinary. A conversation. A phone call. A prayer. A meal shared with a neighbor. A kind word. An invitation to church. A stranger who simply needs someone to notice them.

Many miracles never begin because someone was too busy, too distracted, or too uncertain to say yes. God often disguises divine appointments as interruptions. The person standing in front of you today may be the very reason God arranged your schedule. Don't underestimate small acts of Christian obedience. They are the ones that often become the pages of someone else's testimony.

So today, if you have been holding back and want to see God work miracles in and through your life, I encourage you to offer your hands to God. Offer your voice to God. Offer your heart to God, and the greatest, offer your time to God.

Perhaps the greatest miracle in your life is waiting on the other side of your next "Yes"
